  • Unless your son has developmental issues, he should be able to do all of the above. If he does not have developmental issues, you need to start fostering his independence.

  • I call my 12 yr. old son prince a poo poo because I have waited on him for too long. I know its my own fault cuz he is my youngest and only son. I have been giving him more chores for the last few years like cleaning his room, emptying the dishwasher and taking out the trash and putting his laundry away. He gets $5.00 a week for allowance and I tell him he won't get it if he does nothing. He needs reminders but he is good about getting it done.

  • I've made my son do his own laundry since he turned 10. Granted he doesn't separate them by whites/colors, but, i don't care....

  • at 10 i was babysitting... it just makes me dread my boys growing up cause i want them to be independant

  • I have 10 year old twins and they can do all of the above that you listed. I don't always make them fix their own meals, but they can cook because I have taught them to. Don't dread your boy's growing up, because they will be as independent as you teach them to be. Good Luck Mama!

  • Yes, a 10 yr old can do all of that. I would supervise the cooking of breakfast until you are comfortable with her using the stove but she could use the mircowave or toaster or make a bowl of cereal.

  • i wasnt expecting her to use the stove.. i would NEVER trust her that much.. but a bagel in teh toaster or cereal... or we have packaged muffins and granola bars.... i mean my 3 year old can get those things for himself
