does anyone know if you and your spouse have both been married before does the first wife get the social security money?

  • If they were married for 10 years or more she gets it.

  • if they were married 10 yrs or more I was told they get half my mom looked into it

  • You need to check in to be for sure , but way I understand it even a 2nd wife can if they been married over 10 yrs.

  • Yes. My mother's been divorced her 1st husband in the 70's & he died in '83. She's on SSI & got a call from them recently telling her they were cutting off her benefits because she qualified for his SS --- even though she was married to & divorced from my dad in the mean time.

  • She can after 10 years of marriage. My grandmother is collecting my grandfathers. They were married 10 years and 10 day. His wife that was married to him for 30 years was mad but he ran out on my grandma and 4 little kids never looking back so I am glad she is getting something from his.
