  • Never give a baby water! It flushes them out too much and they can get seizures if they get too much water. It's not okay to use have the dose of formula either . You should ask your doctor, but they usually say to give your baby prune juice or apple juice. If your baby was a little older you could put a tablespoon of brown sugar in 4 oz of formula and it makes them go pretty quick too.

  • NO!!!! she will not be getting the nutrients she needs if you just give her 1/2 the amount of formula....call the doctor & ask if you can give her 1oz of prune juice or apple prune and 1oz of water

  • I don't see why not, as long as it isn't everytime. Btw, I don't know if you are aware of this, but they are constipated only if what comes out is tiny round balls that are hard. It will be like little pebbles in their diaper. If it comes out mush, it is just normal newborn stuff getting used to pooping. Some babies sure struggle with it!!

  • You can give her a 4 ounce bottle with a teaspoon of sugar in it to relieve constipation. I don't know what doctor said never to give your baby water because it flushes them out, but that is ridiculous! DO NOT give her prune juice or apple juice at this very young age. Try the sugar water, I raised 5 babies that are now 19, 18, 17, 17 and 8, it works. You can also use a teaspoon of Karo (corn syrup)

  • NEVER!!! give a baby water especially that little and half the amount of formula? are you aware that this has killed babies in the past?? she needs her nutrients. If shes straining that doesn't mean she's constipated. Please call the doctor for advice on this. A baby can get "water poisoning"...their body mass doesn't absorb it and they can die from too much water...please go give your baby the full amount of formula and call the doc.

  • If you use Karo syrup you run the risk of botulism....

kustomkrochet...glad your kids are fine but please don't instill ignorant suggestions on people.

  • Low body mass (infants)
It can be very easy for children under 1 year old to absorb too much water, especially if the child is under nine months old. Because of their small body mass, it is easy to take in a large amount of water relative to body mass.[2]

Water intoxication (also known as 'hyper-hydration' or water poisoning) is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by over-consumption of water.[

  • Never dilute formula like this. It causes water toxicity which can be fatal and they won't get the nutrients they need which makes them more hungry. If the baby is constipated, breastfeed. It will pretty much cure it and you should still have some milk. You can also call your doctor.
