why does my toddler throw his food?

my 15 month old eats and eats like a champ. he looooves food! he is always asking for a banana or crackers or apples or whatever. but for some reason, when we all sit down to eat dinner, he doesnt want anything to do with it! he will beg pease?! pease?! as im cooking it and he will be over enthused to climb up in his highchair for 'yummies' but after just a few bights of dinner he just looks at us and slides his food off the tray. i mean, its not the food lol cuz ive tried tons of different types. any ideas on whats goin on?

  • Because he can?
I'd enforce a strict "eat at meals and scheduled snack times only" policy. Then, if he dumps his food, simply (and calmly) end that meal for him. He won't starve and he'll quickly learn to not make a mess of his food.

  • i have started not giving him back the food that he throws, its only been a few days of that but so far he doesnt seem to care. but i agree, i know that if he is hungry, he will eat. its like he thinks its funny or soemthing i dunno.
