episiotomy stitches...

Does anyone know how long the stitches are supposed to stay in? My dr said they go away on their own but they are still there, and its been 4weeks since i had my son. Just curious thanks!

  • To be honest-- I never even looked. haha I was mortified and did not want to know what was going on down there after i just pushed out an eight pound baby out. I waited for my OB to check me 6 weeks after and everything was great.

  • I don't even remember how long they took to dissolve, but I think it was 1-2 weeks tops.

If you are worried just give your doc a call and ask.

  • Mine didnt desolve they worked there way out and I had to cut the string when it would get to long... It was not a fun experiance lol... I would wait til you 6 week check up and if they are still there and you are healed enough for them to be out your OB will take them out then [probably]

  • Haha, I didn't look either, I was just in pain. I'd say at 6 wks your doc will let you know, and you shouldn't worry about it.

  • Mine came out between 4 and 6 weeks. They came out like one at a time over that period of time.

  • I looked with a mirror like a week after I got home, but that was the only time. I have no idea how long it took either. I just know they were gone by my 6 week checkup.
