What do you know about Monsanto?

Americans are consuming genetically modified ingredients in our food and the Government has ruled that the citizens don't have the right to know by making it mandatory in labeling. Bovine hormone, antibiotics and pus is in our milk. Monsanto is creating a monopoly on our food and driving both agricultural and dairy farmers out of business. Organic farmers are fighting to stay in business as their crops are being contaminated by GMO pollination. Monsanto employees use the revolving door from the corporation to controlling offices in our Government in order to make the laws suit their needs. People all over the world are being harmed, which is nothing new, remember PCBs? Can you trust Monsanto?

  • All I know is that Monsanto's seeds are required to be the seeds used by farmers in African countries which have been given large loans by the IMF. I heard that IT IS REQUIRED to use these modified seeds which do NOT produce seeds which you can save from your harvest and plant next year. Get it ?? It means that every year the family growing food for themselves or their neighbors MUST BUY seeds from Monsanto.

Strikes me as a spectacularly gross solution to poverty and hunger.

  • Ugh. Those seeds KILL the natural bacteria in the soil, making the soil DEAD... and therefore unable to produce food. Are people really that shortsighted, or is it that they just want to get their money and get out before anyone realizes they made famine where no famine should have happened?

  • Oh, yeah - about genetically-modified plants: the pollen from plants is what bees feed to their young to grow them to maturity to take over for the aging worker bees (they live only 4 or 5 weeks).

Pollen from genetically-modified plants is not nourishing to the "baby" bees.

This info is from a beekeeper seminar in our county.

  • It costs these poor farmers more money---money they don't have--because the seeds won't grow unless Roundup and Monsanto's fertilizer is used. If they save the seeds and plant without paying royalties, Monsanto comes along and sues them and takes their farm and land. Also, I just watched a video about how their water is being poisoned by Roundup and that their farm animals are dying right and left and that it is causing skin diseases from them working in the fields. Now, scientists have reported that the GMO corn and soybeans is causing cows and pigs fed the stuff to be infertile or delivering just bags of water--no offspring. Remember this is soy that is going into our baby formula. Scientists are warning pregnant women to be wary of what they are eating.

  • American Academy of Environmental Medicine Calls for Immediate Moratorium on All Genetically Modified Foods:Pregnant women and babies at great risk-Among the population, biologist David Schubert of the Salk Institute warns that "children are the most likely to be adversely effected by toxins and other dietary problems" related to GM foods. He says without adequate studies, the children become "the experimental animals." The experience of actual GM-fed experimental animals is scary. When GM soy was fed to female rats, most of their babies died within three weeks-compared to a 10% death rate among the control group fed natural soy. The GM-fed babies were also smaller, and later had problems getting pregnant.

When male rats were fed GM soy, their testicles actually changed color-from the normal pink to dark blue.[v] Mice fed GM soy had altered young sperm.[vi] Even the embryos of GM fed parent mice had sign

  • -significant changes in their DNA.[vii] Mice fed GM corn in an Austrian government study had fewer babies, which were also smaller than normal.

Reproductive problems also plague livestock. Investigations in the state of Haryana, India revealed that most buffalo that ate GM cottonseed had complications such as premature deliveries, abortions, infertility, and prolapsed uteruses. Many calves died. In the US, about two dozen farmers reported thousands of pigs became sterile after consuming certain GM corn varieties. Some had false pregnancies; others gave birth to bags of water. Cows and bulls also became infertile when fed the same corn.

In the US population, the incidence of low birth weight babies, infertility, and infant mortality are all escalating.

Geez, isn't this enough for our Government to outlaw what Monsanto is doing?
