amniotic fluid

so i went to the doctors today and they did an ultrasound. im 39 weeks and 5 days and the tech said the amniotic fluid was a little low. so the doctor had me do a non stress test and the doctor said everything looked ok. but now im looking up stuff on low amniotic fluid online and im getting freaked out. i also have group b stress so im just really worried. is it normal to just be sent home at this late stage with low amniotic fluid?

  • yes. unless it's extremely low they just tell you to go home, drink plenty of water, and relax. Especially considering how close you are to your due date. You are likely to go into labor in the next few days and if not, he may induce you because of the low fluid.

  • As long as they nst turned out okay I wouldnt worry. If fluid was really low it would have come back not good on the nst, but you have to remember there could have been pockets of fluid that the tech couldnt see or measure correctly and the non stress test is much more reliable. Try not to worry, if it is anything bad he would induce you. Your fluid level drops anyway normally closer to delivery anyway and the tech may have been refering to it is low compare to a few weeks earlier in a pregnancy or he could be not used to seeing women as far along as you are, most routine u/s's are done alot earlier than you are now.
