squash hills

For you gals that are successful farmers: LOL, how many plants should I leave on each squash hill? I am thinking 3. ??

  • It depends on the size of your hills. I am actually experimenting with cages, so I can get more stuff growing. Summer squashes will grow up into the cage rather than outward.

  • I plant 4 and leave them until they get fairly big then, just before flowering, reduce to 2 plants per hill simply because I'd be overrun with squash if I didn't and I can't give enough of the stuff away; trust me, I've tried!
