  • It won't get voted on by you - it gets voted on by congress, first the house of representatives, then the senate. It gets tweaked and renegotiated in both. After senate, the house comes back to approve the changes made by the senate. If it passes that vote, it goes to Obama for signature. At any step along the way it can not pass the vote and be struck down.

The only way you can voice your opinion on these votes is to contact your own representatives and senators. Send emails and letters to make your voice heard. Then cross your fingers and hope they vote the way you want them to.

  • Ok, that is what I was wondering. Maybe enough representatives and senetors won't agree with it.

  • Sadly, that's not very likely. Since the Democrats have a solid majority, the only way it's not going to pass if is some of them vote their conscience instead of how their party tells them to. And you can't get elected to congress if you still have a conscience.

Not saying it can't happen, but I wouldn't hold your breath. The only other option is if they think a yea vote is likely to prevent their re-election. THAT's where those letters come in.

  • taxes get raised and it just hurts the economy. my sister from sweden says if they do it here she will be sad. she says it's not cool being taxed so heavily like they are.

  • Isn't the fact that EVERYBODY will have healthcare more important than taxes? IMO. I think that we will not have such separate classes once Dr.'s are seen more as equals and not as elitists that are being paid off by pharmaceutical companies.

Everybody won't have healthcare. They'll have someone to pay for it, but that doesn't guarantee they'll be treated. In the UK, the poorest people pay 25% of their income for only the healthcare related taxes. All the other "normal" taxes are added on top of that. How many people getting by right now on $28k/year do you think can afford to do that?

I'd say every family having food and heat is more important.

  • Right now, everybody DOES haveacess to healthcare. If they don't have insurance, they bypass going to a doctor and clog up the ER of the local hospital, then never pay, anyway. With nationalized healthcare, they won't even have that option--and neither will anybody else. If you have a health crises that needs emergency treatment, your'e squat out of luck.

If you actually pay taxes, it's going to be a pain.
