  • First, soak the item in cold water rinsing every 10 or 15 minutes until no more blood comes out of the item. You must use cold water--warm or hot water will cook it in and set the stain. Then, apply a detergent or pre-wash treatment with enzymes in it (anything that claims to be good on protein stains has enzymes). Work it in and let it sit for an hour or so, then rinse as well as possible. If there is still some stain, make an oxygen bleach solution with cool water (follow directions on the oxygen bleach) and apply it to the stain, checking it every few minutes to see if it's done working.
After that, you should be able to wash it in a washing machine (with cold water). Check the item carefully before putting it in the dryer--the dryer's heat will set in any remaining stain.

If you already set the stain, try soaking it in an oxygen bleach solution, changing the solution every 30 minutes or so until no changes occur.

  • I have had success with OxoBrite (I think) by Earth Friendly. Soak in a small container with two scoops and cold water, for two day. Wash in cold water, with soaking water.

  • I also heard have whoever's blood it is spit on it. For some reason that works if there isn't too much. Otherwise use the cold water and just soak it.

  • Dawn dish soap & HOT water. Cold water does not work to get stains out. Hot water will NOT set the stain in. Use a small brush (tooth or nail brush works) to scrub the stain with the Dawn. Then rinse it out with HOT water.

  • A friend of mine got me hooked on this new eco-friendly stain remover called Winning Colours Stain Remover and it works on every stain I have had so far. I went to their website to find a store near me and used their store locator. Here is the link: http://winningbrandscorporation.com/store_locator.htm

You might enjoy seeing these videos too to see what it can do (the first one is removing a blood stain): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weJ8dKF3mfU , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3dQBCP4e24 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXmQIyYxtmw
