Issues at Sons School

.My son is a student at Cypress lake middle school . He is by no means a golden student as he has many many discipline problems. However he has managed to maintain good behavior and was no longer on what they called "The Grounded list" This is when students who are having discipline problem's are not allowed to go to any extra school activity ie dances etc. Well I got a call from the school today letting me know that Justin is now on the "grounded list " not because he is in any sot of trouble, but because he has not returned 2 library Books. Because of that he will be in a 3 hour "time out" on Wednesday, the last day of school and is not allowed to participate in any of the last day party's or activities. He is only allowed to leave for lunch and then return to the room until the end of the day. What I don't get is that , yes kids need to learn responsibility and accountability but at my expense? What do u all think?

  • Maybe I am misunderstanding but how is this at your expense? You only mentioned that he cannot do extra things. Do you have to pay for the books, make him pay you back-out of his own funds, or labor around the house.

  • Sometimes the punishments they hand out in school boggle my mind. The other day my son was sitting on the floor with one knee up under his chin instead of sitting cross legged, and one of the teachers told him he had him sit on the bench at recess crosslegged for 5 minutes. Then she forgot he was there and left him there the whole recess!!! RIDICULOUS! Did he learn anything? No.

  • Yes I have to pay 47.00 to the school for the books in order for him to attend or he gets the whole day time out. It really sucks cause hes in 8th grade and will be going to high school next year so they are having like a graduation party and he cant go cause I dont have 47.00 right now.
