How soon...

Can the doctor tell the gender of your baby from a ultrasound? I have heard of some people finding out as early as 12 weeks, is that possible?

  • A friend of mine found out at 16 week from an ultrasound but that's highly unusual, it's usually closer to 18 - 20 weeks. My child didn't cooperate until nearly 22 weeks :)

  • I went in for an ultrasound at 13 weeks and the tech told me that it looked like I would be having a boy. But he said it was too early to tell for sure, but he put his money on a boy. At 20 weeks they sure enough told me I was having a boy! They can probably take an educated guess that early but they can tell you with more certainity around the 20th week of pregnancy.

  • My friend just found out at 14 weeks from an ultrasound. I found out at 17 weeks from an ultrasound. With the new technology ultrasound machines are getting more and more sensitive. Private ultrasound places now offer gender ultrasounds starting at 14 weeks.
