2009 Black Power Conference - militant racism mixing with politics?

The Conference was convened by Malik Zulu Shabazz, Dr. Leonard Jeffries, the Black Power Movement & New Black Panther Party. "The conference was held at a Black hotel... as evidence of directing our dollars to empower Black entrepreneurs who are strong enough to stand on principle in the face of those who oppose those involved in the Black Liberation struggle."
Some lectures were:
""Self Defense and Black Power" -- Members of the New Black Panther Party for Self Defense and other Black defense oriented groups have an intense interactive workshop that deals with variety of threats facing the Black Community including: The Police"

"Black Economics and Black Power" -- Panel of economic leaders, real estate entrepreneurs and other African Centered business people who give expert advice on how the billions of dollars we spend in the Black Community and Black World must be used for ourselves."

Do you think that a State Representative (Georgia's "Able" Mable Thomas) should attend and be a presenter at such a gathering?

  • They need to get over themselves. There are no threats facing the black community except for the ones that they cause themselves.

  • "Obey the law no matter what "race" you are and the police wont' bother you..damn"

This has to be the dumbest and most ignorant post I've ever read on cafemom, and there are a lot of them.

    Moving on.

If he supports the movement then he should go. A Black Power event isn't about racial superiority and separation, it's about empowering people who were once enslaved and who are still making their way up from a very deep shit hole.

Seriously? How can you say it's about empowering people who were once enslaved and who are still making their way up from a very deep shit hole? How long will this continue to be used as an excuse for the black community? Your thoughts amaze me.

and how is someone saying the police won't bother people (of any race)if they obey the law, the "dumbest and most ignorant post" you've ever read.
