  • bloodhounds i think are the best but a lot of diffrent breeds could be used. Hounds tend to have the best nose for the job though.

  • Blood Hounds are best for tracking because of their extremely keen sense of smell. But, german shephards are trained as police dogs too.

  • The Belgian Malinois is a superior tracker and used widely in police and search and rescue work. They excel at everything they put their minds too. They are a hard breed and require an educated handler.

  • Bloodhounds, Malinois, Turvurens, Bassets, Coonhounds (blue ticks and redbone), and of course, the German Shepherd.

  • All of the above posters mentioned great breeds of dogs that are used for tracking, but most police dogs are also used to regular police work (narc, take down, etc.) If you are looking for a dog to do *TRACKING ONLY* stick with bloodhounds.

Can I ask what exactly you plan on doing? Maybe we can point you in the right direction. It seems like you are very new to this since you are asking a very basic question.
