Can you dilate and efface without the baby "dropping"?

My doctor says I'm 1cm dilated and 40% effaced but she didn't say anything about what station the baby was at.

I'm just curious if you can dilate and efface without the baby dropping.

  • Dropping means engaged in the pelvis. And usually after the first baby the others don't engage. So yes you can be dilated and effaced without the baby dropping!!
    Hope this helps!
