Anyone start their own small business??

So I have an idea for a product to sell. I am scared that it wont work out though.

If you have started your own small business what helped you get over that "fear" speed bump? What types of things helped you get set up (websites, books, setups etc.)? How did you stay organized with all your ideas (i have so many and am trying to write them down but still feel like i cant get them all together and straight)?

Thanks so much in advance for any input. I truely appreciate it

  • A good place to start is your local small business administration. They usually have people there that will talk with you for free and help you identify the first steps that you need to take. Otherwise, research on the internet and library. Just remember....everybody has to start somewhere. Most people DON'T have everything in order BEFORE they start. They work them out as they go. Good for you! Good luck!

  • It is ok to be scared, you just need to take your fear with you, not let it stop you from doing what you want or need to do. Knowledge is power, and the more you know, the less fear that you will have.
When you start a business, you need to start with a business plan. This is essentially a roadmap on how to run and grow your business.
Once you have you business plan in place, then you can actually get to work.
There are many resources available to help you write a business plan, the best is
Once your business plan is in place, you need to get your business structure set up; the Small Business Association can help you with much of this
I strongly urge you to contact your local community college; they will more than likely have a class or two geared towards people who want to start a business, perhaps called entrepreneurship or "starting your own business"
    Good Luck!

  • Starting a small business can feel scary. The biggest challenge usually is ourselves. Worried we might do it wrong, we might fail, people might reject us & all the other stories we tell ourselves to hold us back from going after our dreams & ideas.

Starting a business does not mean you have to go it alone! Like Robin stated the SBA is a great place to get you going! Also in your area you may have a Small Business Development Center that can help you & most of those organizations are no cost for you. Business leaders volunteer to help new people get going. Contact Chamber of Commerce for ideas.

Go online & find free teleclasses/webinars on learning how to be a small business. There are a lot of resources where successful business owners will offer free tips to get you going. Look to see what similar kinds of businesses are doing.

Feel the fear, acknowledge it & thank it for protecting you & let it know you are boss!
