Question about IUD's

I've had a Paraguard IUD in for 5 years this month. It's supposed to good for 5 years, but I'm wondering what happens after the 5 years is up? Does it stop working? Is it dangerous? Anyone know? Thanks!

  • I'm not sure how different a paraguard is from mirena, but I know that with mirena, when your 5 years is up you go to the gyno && have it removed. you can choose to have another one put in or not. I googled the paraguard and everything I read said it's good for 10 years, so idk you may want to call your doctor just to be sure or there is a hotline for the paraguard 1.877.727.2427.

  • Paraguard is actually good for 10 years and the Mirena is only 5 years. You have to go to the gyno and have it removed though.
