Spitting up

My son is 5 months old. For the last week it seemed like he had stopped spitting up and now he is starting to spit up again. Its almost like he throws up a lil bit. He is formula fed and eats 6 oz bottles every 2-4 hours during the day. Is this a normal thing? When do most babies stop completely spitting up?

  • Yes, normal, hopefully by 9mos to 1 year it will stop. All 4 of mine were spitters.

  • If is was a brand new development, I would be concerned, but since it seems like it was common, with just a little break there, I wouldn't be too worried so long as it isn't like he is losing most of his bottle. It could be a reflux thing/ Something you might find will help is to sit him upright for about 20 minutes after he eats, so that gravity helps pull his food lower. The pyloric sphincter is very weak in young children, so that is why many babies spit up regularly.
