i have a question about the bleeding heart plant/flower??

do they have bulbs or are they just roots? i planted some bleeding hearts that someone gave to me and my MIL's are pretty much dead, there's no reason why they should of died but i planted mine after her's and they seem to be doing fine but thats why i want to know if they should have a bulb or not, just to know if they are going to make it.

  • they aren't really bulbs...it's more like a root "clump"...they do like shade though as long as they aren't planted in full sun you should do ok. When the plants are separated (this should be done about every 3 years or so) you have to cut the foliage back to about 6 inches and dig up the clump and slice it into pieces...each piece should have atleast 5 shoots and a mass of healthy roots or they might not take. Maybe your MIL's just weren't as healthy as yours. Good Luck!
