  • Uh...YES! A lot of the dogma of churches has to do with what was best for the church, not what was best for the people in the church.

  • No.

  • Yes. The gospels in the bible were selected by a bunch of men, and those selections were based on the standards they wanted to set at the time. For example, there is a story that God created a woman before Eve named Lilith. Also, there are several stories about how the world came to be populated -- namely-- incest.

  • Yes the Bible was written long ago - some parts of the bible were written long before other parts of the Bible. Have people used the bible to try to control others? - yes. Does that mean that the purpose of the Bible was to control people? - no

There bible wasn't written as a single book - it's a collection of texts written by different people over a period of thousands of years. Do you really think there was some consiracy over several generations to control people?  Besides the fact that often when parts of the Bible were written the authors were being persecuted for their beliefs and didn't really have any power to control people.

  • If there is a fault in the Bible its because it was written by man, and not at the time of events. It spanned over thousands of years, translations get lost or translated wrong, and spoken from family to family. I am a Lutheran but I enjoy the Jewish Bible. Its more into the old testament. Sometimes when reading other Bibles of the same belief do you get the whole picture.

  • That is exactly why I think the bible was written. Any true wisdom it contains is most likely from individual writters who were mystics hoping to spread the message of love.

  • That and every other religion.

  • I know politics is why certain scriptures were written in the bible (those that condemn Pagans and such)..

so it definitely had some influence on the writings.. but I can't say it had to do with all the books in the bible.

the history behind Christianity is filled with war.. hate, politics, death, murder.. etc. Sure there was some good.. but until a person researches the history of their religion.. they will never have a true understanding of their religion.
