How long do you steam fresh and frozen broccoil?

I usually buy frozen and steam it 12 minutes. It's pretty soft and my kids love it. I just wonder if that's really too long?

  • I "steam" them in the microwave in a covered glass dish until they are just bright green (save the water to use for soup, vegetable stock, sauce, etc.)

  • I steam fresh broccoli for about 20 to 25 minutes until it is soft, my dd wont eat it unless it's soft. Is somethiing wrong with my steamer or why do y'all just have to steam yours up to 12 minutes?

  • I wait til the water is boiling then add the basket with frozen broccoli and it is very soft within 10-12 mins. It's a simple steamer made of stainless steel (I think) and I don't let any steam out while it is steaming the veggies (I close the little hole).
