When is the best time of the day to wash & dry clothes?

I have heard to wait til the evening hours rather than on a hot day some how it saves energy...Is this true?

  • It doesn't save energy to do it at night.
BUT - if it's a really hot day, lots of people are running their AC. That means there's a heavy draw on the power companies. If they max out or have any equipement problems (more common on hot days) then you may end up with brown-outs, rolling black outs, or complete black outs. Running non-essential things at night helps to even the load for the power company.

  • Do you need to use your dryer, especially in the summer? We line dry everything but towels and socks.
