16 month dd has diarrhea for 36 hours now. Any tricks to keep her hydrated? Dr. appointment in 45 minutes.

She hates Pedialyte. Will only sip a little water. Anything to try other than the obvious?

  • Maybe try gatorade? Sucks that she won't drink pedialyte, that's the best stuff! Have you tried all of the flavors, or maybe the ice pops?

  • Let her continue to sip water. Don't give her anything with sugar in it as sugar makes diarrhea worse.

Stick to giving her carbs and starches to eat. Don't worry about her diet right now...breads, bananas, rice, applesauce (not apples), pasta, potatoes, fatty foods and NO sugar (eat or pedialyte, no gatorade, no juice).

The carbs and starches will help bulk her back up. Just keep with the water...nothing else and let her sip as she will. Watch her for dehydration...make sure her eyes are still moist, mouth is still moist, still tears when she cries, etc. If she starts to dehydrate, take her to the doctor.
