Affordable care for everyone? Follow up Q

Here is a follow up q for peopel who responded to the healthcare q I asked.
Many say they just want affordable care for everyone no matter what their illness or dissability.
Keeping in mind just how much you have to pay for visits, procedures, surgeries and meds now with whatever you have (or don't have) What is affordable? It seems impossible to make healthcare affordable to everyone when you realize how much the whole pkg costs. (everything above)

  • Of cours it would be great if everyone had affordable care but I just don't think it can be done for everyone. The costs are just to massive. Anyone who has been in the hospital or has a disability knows just how expensive it can be. So Obama wants to toss out what we have for the most part. Slash medicare and medicaid to help pay for something huge and hope it all works out. Did you know our programs we have now have cost us 4 times as much as they predicted when they made them? No wonder we can't sustain it.
Why not fix what we have? Really get down to business and fix it. Fix the inefficiencies, streamline things, really go after the fraud and put regulations on the insurance companies so they cannot turn anyone down. Stop the friviolous lawsuits and put money into teaching at medical schools. All of the above would be much less expensive and I think faster to implement.

  • Doctors and pharmaeutical companies have more education and money, respectively, than you and me.

They will have their huge piece of the pie no matter WHAT happens to you and me.

They're why the package costs so much.

But nurses and physical therapists have to have their 65K a year, too.
So what are we supposed to do.
They all contribute to the economy and society in good ways. I am not overly fond of the big pharma companies, though. Necessary evil?
If all this was easily solved, someone would have already.

  • I listed fraud. There are many things that need to be fixed but none that warrant tossing out the whole tomato. I really don't think they have tried to fix these things with any sincerity but it is time to get down to business and we are the ones who have to push for it. If our reps don't know what we expect they will do what pleases them.

  • Does it matter anymore? He's already in office, why do you think debating the issue will change it? The people will get what they asked for-Government healthcare.

  • Insurance fraud, tort reform and government should not be involved in the health care industry. Private industry can't compete with the government because government doesn't have to turn a profit and never does with anything they run.

  • See Grace's CA question if you want to see the future of this utopian society.

How much further will we let this go? THERE IS NO MONEY FOR THIS! We are broke!

  • Who decides what's affordable. Just because something is affordable it doesnt mean better.

I think the people who VOTED for Obama should be FORCED to take whatever healthcare package he gives them...and leave the rest of us alone. Guaranteed, those people will be singing a different tune soon thereafter.
