At first she sleep through the night just fine and then the next morning all of a sudden shes been crying ubcontrollably without anyway to sooth her. She is 6 weeks. She will cry and her face will turn red and her voice will become hoarse. This is really scaring me!! Can someone please help me to find out what is going on with my baby!!

  • Six weeks? Unfortunately normal. She barely got used to being out of the womb and her atmosphere changed. **smile**

If she's nursing, put her to breast. If not,. cuddle her as much as possibel and no "passing around the baby." She needs a bit less stimulation right now. Newborns scream in order to make the world go away. Get her into a quiet place, rock her and feed her.

  • Gas? Constipation? A scary, new place? Scary, new people? Exhaustion? Hunger? Upset stomach? If you're breastfeeding, maybe you ate something that disagreed with her?

  • Does she have an ear infection? Press on the little button of the ear (part of the flesh outside of the ear right before the ear canal where you'd clean it w/ a Qtip). If she winces, it could be an infection or tummy problem. Sounds like a pain cry rather than colic. Nothing inadvertently broken? Collarbone?

  • Babies that are handed around tend to get overtired. Perhaps at 6 weeks, all the changes, plus being held and passed around by loving relatives, has been too tiring. If she has no fever, if she can be comforted in a quiet place, then she should be OK. If the crying simply does not stop and seems frantic then it might not be a bad idea to have her checked by a doctor- although probably she'll check out fine. 6 weeks is very young. Keep calm yourself. Your worry, tension, would communicate to her, too.

  • Its not a pain cry because its not piercing. She goes to sleep for about 5-10 min. then wakes up and does the crying all over again. She basiclly crys herself to sleep.

  • It sounds like a new place and new people are scary for a new born.
