How do I punish them?

My oldest 2 sons, 17 & 15 are generally very well behaved, but they have figured out the key to immortallity. I cannot punish them. They don't use their cell phones. Only 17 y/o has one and has used 30 minutes since 11/2008 and 3 text messages (all incoming) taking his phone would not really have an impact, they don't ask to go hang out with friends or have friends over. We don't have a computer at home (it died), and they don't care if the get to use the wii or not. When they do behave disrespectfully how can I punish them?

  • They sound like pretty lonely kids.

  • They sound like nerds. What do they do for fun? What do they use in the house the most? Take that away. If it's the TV then take it away. GL

  • We don't keep them isolated, they choose to not socialize, they think most people are "stupid". They are smart, but not "nerdy." What they use most is food. They watch TV, but again they can take it or leave it.

  • Make them do chores! There has to be SOMETHING they don't like to do! :o)

  • Ya i agree they should be doing chores regardless they are old enough to help you mom around the house. I mean beyond making there own bed and cleaning ther rooms, they can fold lanudrys and dishes, yard work ect.

  • what about removing their door to their room? if they are not obeying the rules... they don't have the right to privacy?

  • Physical labor is our friend...have them spend a Saturday cleaning the garage or doing some heavy duty yard work...not only is it a complete drag it might teach them a sense of responsibility and accomplishment...character builders in my opinion.

  • They don't sound normal...

  • I have 4 boys.......I always made them write an essay about what they did. They had to put in it why they did it, how it affected other people, etc. It usually had to be 2-3 pages long, written neatly. They hated those essays. They also had to do extra chores around the house. I called them "projects".
