Why are members of Congress exempt from Obama's health plan?

Because they know it sucks?

  • Because it's not about healthcare. It's about power. The more money we spend that we don't have, the less the dollar is worth, the closer we get to a major economic disaster.

What's the big push here? Why do this right now? When the dollar has been stretched to it's breaking point, in comes that new currency the rest of the world wants.

I think we got sold out.

  • Because it's one of the many perks they get! Newsflash...the majority of them really don't care about the people they are supposed to represent--they just care about being elected/re-elected!

  • EXEMPT means they don't have it. Exempt means you are not supposed to participate. Exempt means they do not participate in the health plan. So--whats your issue?

  • Anon, the point is that they are advertising this health plan as 'the same as what they get' when it is anything BUT what they get. That's the issue. But you have fun making your appointment for 3 years from now for your annual exam. I am sure your Dr. will be pleased as punch to meet you, that is if he / she even has the time to do your exam. Perhaps the PA will be happy to examine you. Oh well, as long as everyone has the same shitty coverage as you, then who cares, right?

Sorry do burst your bubble but Alaska senators and House of Representatives in D.C care about citizens of Alaska.

  • Because Congress has private insurance that's the best in the entire nation. They don't want to give that up. I don't blame them. We have private insurance that is great. We don't need referrals to see specialists. We pay $8 for prescriptions. Our dental and eyes are even covered (our insurance will buy us a new pair of glasses or contacts every 2 years). Congress doesn't want to give up perks like that to adopt an insurance program that will have coverage more like that of the current Medicare system.
