I know it's been asked a million times- paying a babysitter?

I'm having a couple of teens watch my kids tonight for about 3 hours. Their mom is a friend of mine and just sends the both of them together if there is more than one child, but requests that we just pay them as one.

My kids should be asleep while they are over.

How much should I pay them per hour?

We've never really had a sitter, so I'm not sure.

  • For teens, I pay $5 per hour for 2 kids. So since there are 2 of them I would just say $10 per hour total.

  • If you have multiple children, I would recommend paying $5 per kid per hour.

With just one child, $7-10 per hour, depending on their age.

Slightly higher pay for difficult children or children with special needs.

I know that back in my babysitting, if I got paid less than $8 an hour, I didn't come back. A good, regular sitter is worth the money.

  • I try to do $10/hr for my 3 kids, ages 7, 3 and 3. If I'm gone longer than a few hours, like all day or something I may just do a flat rate, like say $50 for the day or something. But normally, if i hire a sitter it's only for a couple of hours.
