  • (cont), which are random occurences or even flaws in how the DNA has been replicated. It also makes it less likely that unfavorable genes will be passed on. However, science has never stood for the position that the way thing are is "perfect." Instead, it tries to find an explanation for why-- not "why not." Evolution works toward efficiency, but not "perfect."

As for the original question-- incest in the bible. Remember, cultures often used incest as a means of retaining power. It didn't have the same stigma as it does today. And using genetic probability, even potential "defects" only occur in about 1.5% of cases-- unfortunately, the 1.5% can sometimes have devestating effects.

  • Oh wait. it says it did occur. ...well that's even more confusing. And where does it say it was okay for Adam and Eve but not okay for everone else? And what does it mean by "pure". That's where the family tree started? there was no one else before them? ...i'm really confused.

  • Actually, what we learned is that Eve had 2 wombs. Each set of kids would marry the next set of kids from different wombs. And if you do not believe a woman can have two wombs.. then research it online.

  • It is believed that incestuous relationships are most likely what populated the earth.

Remember, that the culture of the time when the earth was created is not our culture. We cannot necessarily place our own stigmas and taboos of a time and place that we are not familiar with.

Sin was still very new to the earth. Imperfection and disease had not yet begun to take a told on humankind. In order to populate the earth, incest without defect was possible. It was only after the earth was more populated and time had passed that incest was outlawed among the Isrealites for the purpose of preventing defect (among other purposes I assume).

Christians believe all but Noah and his family were wiped out in the flood which means we not only come from just Adam and Eve but JUST Noah and his wife, three kids and their wives too. Interestingly enough, an account of a "great flood" is in almost every ancient culture in the world.
