  • i'm going to answer best i can, but he needs to speak to a recruiter b/c it all depends on what he goes in as for pay and for where he could get stationed.
if you live on base you don't pay:rent, elec, water, sewage, if you live off base they give a housing allowance that is calculated by the cost of living where you live. you can do a google search for army pay chart, he would have dependents so he would get 0 years in w/dependents and that would tell you what his starting pay would be. if he were to enlist tomorrow when he leaves for boot camp would depend on when they have the next class starting, and if he passes all the physical requirements. can you pick where you live, normally you pick 3 different bases and they chose where you go from that, but that also depends on his grades, his evaluations and his job. so in reality you don't get to say we want this base and are absolutely going to get it. as far as is it a CONT

  • The best thing for him to go an do is talk to a recruiter. They are going to be able to give you the most acurate information. Since there are so many different jobs that he can do in the Army, it is going to depend on his ASVAB scores. His MOS(job) is going to determine almost all of the above questions.

  • good decision, thats not something anyone can tell you. it depends, are you willing to struggle for awhile money wise (the pay is not great starting out or even later lots of budgeting and possibly you working if you weren't planning on working something to consider), are you ok w/him leaving 18 months at a time, is he ok with missing big things in babies life, are you guys ok with being near no one you know and him having to leave all things you need to take into consideration. my husband is navy, so i can't speak for the army side, but its similar and the pay is the same starting out, so i can speak from that perspective. go in together talk to the recruiter and ask all of your questions. then search for an army wives or military wives group on here, that way you can ask questions & get the answers of the wives, remember the recruiter is going to tell you what you want to hear b/c he/she wants him to join message me if u wan

  • get married before he enlists. it will make this MUCH easier with paper work and you will be covered with health care the first day of reports for active duty. when will he report ? that depends on his MOS and when they have the next available class. he can go down and ask for the MOS' that have the soonest report date. if you go to and get info about MOS' and when their classes start, how high of a ASVAB score he might need. of course the dates for the classes do not take into account boot camp. as far as where you will stationed, you would not find that out until the end of AIT (ADVANCED INSTRUCTIONAL TRAINING). you most likely will not be able to pick where you are station the first time (maybe when he re-enlists). you will have your housing paid for (or get so much towards rent off base) and you will be allowed so much use of gas and electric every month. what you go over you have to pay

  • cont.) if you are under by 15 dollars they will pay you the extra (that is if you live on base) as far as pay, you can go to and they have a pay calculator that can tell you ball park what you would get before taxes. (of course when he is deployed you would not have taxes taken out) dependingon his rank depends on how much he would make. last yr as an E4 made around 22,000 with out housing, BAS, BAH etc. if you actually add those in you actually make in the 30,000 (considering that in the civi world you would not get paid housing elect etc.)

  • when you talk to a recruiter ask for the * mos' . those are the ones they have shortages on and see if you both agree with any of them. those are also the ones that get bonus'. you MAY get a choice of bases if you pick one that he qualifies for and has an outragous ASVAB score and they REALLY want him.
but you both need to know what you are getting into. as another poster said, go to the boards and find out. there is a good website, that can really help you with questions too. you have to remember the moment he signs on that dotted line, he belongs to the US gov. you DO NOT come first. if he wants a family friendly branch of the military head the Air Force. (of course in the AF you can't pick you MOS they pick it for you based on your ASVAB scores but most are not as dangerous or on the front lines)
