how do you put out a charcoal grill?

we cooked out hours ago - I closed all the vents but the grill is still hot - any ideas?

  • if you starve the charcoal by closing all vents, you can sometimes reuse the charcoal. it may take hours for the actual temperture of the grill to cool down though.

  • Unless the charcoal grill is on fire, you always let it burn out on it's own. My question is how much charcoal are you using though. Because the more you use, the longer it takes to burn off and cool down. My husband and I have a charcoal grill that has a door on the front for adding more charcoal as we cook, so we tend to use smaller amounts of charcoal to start and then we add more as needed.

  • Let it burn out on it's own. It should be cool within a couple of hours.
