i'm worried and stressed about my baby's bowel movements......

her pediatrician prescribed her with similac alimentum because she can't have a bowel movement by herself and is constipated, and we have not found the right formula for her, so since she came home from the hospital she needs help to be able to poop, so i help her with glycerin suppositories(i do not leave them in). but her pediatrician said to not help her but she doesn't sleep if she can't go, she tried for 2 days and i had to help her cause last night she didnt sleep, so i don't know how to deal with that i'm so frustrated and i get really sad to see her like that!

  • when you try a new formula leave her on it for about a week or so, it takes awhile for them to get used to new formulas (my dd did at least). you can try bicycling her legs, or taking her temp and that usually helps. also a little karo syrup in her bottle, about half a teaspoon (just be prepared for a blow out if you do that)

  • i am giving her the karo syrup and still she doesn't go by herself, would you recommend helping her go, since she will cry and cry and not sleep because of it

  • If you continue to use suppositories, her body will become dependent. Use chamomile tea. Giver her chamomile in her formula and in her baths. I wouldn't give more than 4 oz in 24 hours. Warm baths will help as well. My daughter has the same problem since birth and she's almost 3. She was on breast milk so it couldn't be the formula.
