Does anyone else think these cafe mom abbreviations are kind of corny?

I dunno I refuse to call my daughter a DD or my husband a DH lol. Not bashing anyone who uses them though...just a thought

  • It is annoying. I will go out of my way to write husband or my son. I will use MIL and stuff like that simply because I don't like them and don't want to go out of my way to write about them. But that is why I am a terrible person.

  • Just internet shorthand..same as LOL, BRB,BBL,BTDT..I don't actually read a post and translate it dear daughter.., I guess it's just mind over matter. I don't mind so it doesn't matter.

  • It's been around for ages. It's just a quicker way to type things.

  • It's not just on cafemom. About the only ones I will use are for the in-laws. SIL, BIL, MIL, FIL...

There are too many times when my sons are not so "dear" and the same goes for my husband! lol

  • No, I like them. It makes typing easier sometimes when my hands are full.

  • It's not just a cafemom thing. Those are standard internet abbreviations and you'll find them on any parenting board. I first learned them about 9 years ago on the AOL boards. They used them at ivillage, too. They're everywhere. I used to avoid using them at first but now I'm on so much it's just 2nd nature to type dd or dh, although I always type son out, it's not that long so I have no use for ds.

I don't always use them. Depends on what I'm writing and how much room I have (like in the answers where you have limited characters I use them more often then when I'm writing a journal or group post).
