  • Solids are NOT necessary until around a year of age. They are ONLY practice/a treat at this point in time.

If you want to, go right on ahead. I started practicing with my daughter at 5 1/2 months. But just remember that it is NOT for nutritional value.

  • Yes - 6 months is the current recommendation - back when your mom was a new mom, doctors did not know what they know today - that starting before 6 months can comprimise their digestive systems and leave them with lifelong allergies.

Your mom is trying to help you - but she has out-dated advice.

Wait until 6 months. (Although you may get a lot of "I started solids at 4 months and my kids are fine!"). It's a risk NOT worth taking, gambling with your childs health.

  • You're right with 6 months mama. Gently tell your mom things change and as we learn better we do better.

  • It depends if your child is formula fed or breast fed, I think.

  • I think that depends on the baby, I had to add a little cereal in my baby's milk at a month. The milk alone was not enough. Be careful how you do it, I suggest make different things yourself. Do not start with a full banana or apple, just do 1/4 or 1/2 or just give the baby a taste and see the response you get. Good luck.

  • I just had my WIC appt today and went over all this stuff. You CAN introduce Infant Cereal at 4-6 months depending on your child!!! You only feed them 4-8 Tbsp. of mixed or rice cereal. Never put it in the bottle and feed from a spoon. You however don't want to feed them any of the baby foods until 6 months.
