Eating has decreased dramatically, why?

My son is 6 months old. He was eating almost every 2-3 hours and then one day he was only eating 4 bottles from wake time to bed time. Is this normal for appetite to decrease so dramatically? He is not sick but has been teething on and off. Today his teeth did not bother him at all and still ate only 4 bottles and part of a jar of food.

  • Every kid is different, I wouldn't worry too much right now but if he keeps it up or you see him losing weight, you might want to ask your doctor.

  • You're going to go through the "eating" problem for the next 2-3 years. ALL babies and toddlers go through periods when their eating habits change - sometimes dramatically. As long as your baby is HEALTHY and doesn't appear to be sick or in pain - then I wouldn't worry about it. My own grandson went for nearly a year and would hardly eat a thing. It's worrisome but, he was healthy then, suddenly, he began to eat normally again. So, be prepared for periods when your baby/toddler will be a picky eater. NEVER force food on them OR make an issue of it. Toddlers very quickly learn what pushes your buttons and you DON'T want food to be an issue. If they won't eat - try again at the next meal. As for your 6 mo old -unless he is seriously not getting enough to eat & drink - don't worry too much. Teething can cause loss of appetite for short periods. ALWAYS check with your doc. if he begins loosing weight. or appears ill.
