  • You can probably get a doctor to order tests even at a self-pay clinic, but your best bet is to try to get some insurance first. The medication is not all that expensive even without insurance, but you will need to be monitored on a regular basis; this is especially important when you first start treatment, and you will have to see a doctor at least once a year and have your levels checked to get any refills.

  • One thought is that you could find a health fair going on sometime soon and just get a thyroid panel done. Otherwise you can go see your doctor and have them do the testing, it will cost more but will still give you the results.
Typically hypothyroidism is treated with just synthroid and it's an inexpensive script. If you had hyperthyroidism is when the bills at up big time.
