Why is my 7 month old so clingy?

My son has all of a sudden decided that he can't be content unless I am holding him or playing with him. If I do manage to sneak away he starts crying as soon as he realizes I am no longer next to him. Or if he is playing and I walk by him he freaks out until I pick him up. Any suggestions?

  • Most likely he has discovered that you to can be separated (something that is learned with independance). So he's probably wanting to be clingy for proof you are there and not going to leave him.

  • Before you leave his line of view, tell him what you are doing, and tell him that you will be back, and just leave him there.

  • He's clingy because he's a seven month old! **smile** It's normal!
