  • Gerber is a brand of (mostly) pesticide laden baby foods.

Understand that solids fed to babies before they turn 1 are for the experience of eating them, not for nutrition (a subject most doctors know nothing about). Nutritionists recommend starting solids at 6 months; many are now recommending skipping cereal and starting with a bit of avocado mashed with breastmilk (or formula). Then baked sweet potato, oatmeal, pumpkin, pureed peas, etc. Jarred baby food tastes awful, is expensive, and you never really know what is in it. Be sure to avoid the allergy trigger foods. This is not a complete list: before age 1, no soy, dairy, wheat, citrus, egg white, strawberries; before age 2 no honey, chocolate, nuts.
The best book on feeding babies, toddlers and their families is called Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron. You should be able to find it at your local library. There is some great information on the website: www.superbabyfood.com

  • ok. gerber makes single grain rice cereal and single grain oatmeal cereal in boxes. this is what we did at my house with my dd (almost a yr). we started mixing some oatmeal cearl into hr formaul/ milk bottles, i just add 1 scoop of cereal into a 6-8 oz bottle (mixes better if warm). i use a fast flow (cross cut) nipple. we have been doing this since she was like 4 months old, this is her regular bottle. also you can buy little jars of stage 1 baby cereal, things like mixed grains w/ apples, granola and pears. these are good too. but i waited until dd was about 6 months to do those. also, you can jsut make 2-4 oz of formula/ milk, add some oatmeal until it is oatmeal consistensy at this at about 6 months. i also added 2-4 oz of baby fruit to it to add flavor.

  • I am pretty sure oatmeal is not until 6 months, you might want to check on that. Start with rice cereal, single grain, and go easy in the beginning, so your LO doesn't get constipated. They also say that you shouldn't give cereal in a bottle, it is a choking hazard.

  • Wow. Cereal at 6 months. FROM A SPOON. Cereal in a bottle is dangerous and makes babies overweight. Start with the single grain and give the same thing for a week before switching. I did oatmeal first because rice makes for constipation. Make it runny at first and its all practice in the beginning. There isn't much nutritional value in cereal except iron. Keep formula/breastmilk as the main meal though. Bottles/boobies first.
