Does vinegar disinfect? Does it work good alone or would a mixture of vinegar and clorox be good to clean surfaces?

If not, what does vinegar do to help clean?

  • don't ever mix bleach with other chemicals, even vinegar. The ONLY thing that I would mix bleach with is dish soap and even then it would be watered down and used in a spray bottle (I use about 1 tablespoon bleach to a spray bottle filled with water, plus one teaspoon of great smelling dish soap)

If you want to use something with your vinegar to clean, try baking soda. I use the two together all the time. They work great to loosen grease and such.

-Cuts grease and freshens dishes when washing them
-Wipe oven to prevent grease build up.
-Cleans and disinfects wood cutting boards, counters, the
refrigerator, microwave, etc. Wipe with full strength vinegar.
-Deodorizes the kitchen drain. Pour a cup down the drain once a
week. Let stand 30 minutes and then flush with cold water.
-Cleans stainless steel, copper pots and chrome.
    -Cleans grout.
-Cleans your washing machine and dishwasher. Add vinegar and run through a regular cycle to dissolve detergent residues.

-Cleans your iron. Put equal amounts of vinegar and water into
water holder. Put on the steam setting and let set 5 minutes.
    Cool and drain.
-Cleans calcium deposits, lime, and scum. Great for humidifiers,
    tubs and wash basins.
-Unclog a drain with baking soda and vinegar, per last week's issue.
-Film that accumulates in your bat

  • I clean mostly with vinegar. I guess mom2twobabes covered exactly what it does and where to use it, but from experience, I urge you to try it! I clean my counter tops with it and then use bleach spray for stains. (white counters, ugh!) It is a great deodorizer! I'm not real fond of the smell, so I put a tsp of vanilla in my spray bottle with about 1/2 cup of vinegar and water. And its not bad for the environment and super cheap!

  • Make sure that you never mix vinegar and bleach! It can be very dangerous!

  • This is what we use for most cleaning (initially used as part of my daughter's 6th grade science fair project). It is cheap (my favorite) and non toxic.
    ¼ cup white vinegar
    ¾ cup warm tap water
    1 tablespoon baking soda
10 drops of tea tree oil (antibacterial, antifungal, etc.)
2 drops oil of lavender (optional) (antiseptic and smells nice)

  • NEVER mix bleach with vinegar or other chemicals. It is ok to mix bleach and dishsoap, I do a lot of times when washing dishes to get rid of any bacteria. (worked in child care and we had to rinse toys and dishes in bleach water).
