Think Cap & Trade Will Only Affect Businesses? Think again!

House GOP Leader John Boehner took to the floor and started reading from the 300 page amendment that the Democrats drafted and dropped on the legislatures at 3 AM, there was literally hundreds of items imposing federal control over your life. Highlights include:

* Need to replace a window? First you must pay for an appraisal of your house to measure its energy efficiency and receive calculations of before and after proposed changes.

* Building a new house? The bill tells you exactly where you can put your electrical outlets.

* There is only ONE appraisal service you can use to determine energy efficiency! How did one company manage to land the only contract to service 300 million Americans?

* You might not be able to sell your house! By the time you go through the costs of getting it up to seller's codes proposed by this bill, you might as well stay put!

  • In effect, the Cap and Trade bill is going to kill community renovation and reinvestment acts, it's going to kill the home improvement business, it's going to cause old homes to go without repairs and updates destroying what was once proud neighborhoods.

And if you're "just a renter" watch how much your rent goes up when you renew your lease, or if your landlord will even bother to repair things, as they're going to cost too much....all hail the slum lord!

I can only imagine what all of the details of this bill contain!

People need to be calling their senators and TELLING them to vote "NO" on this bill!!! Unless you like the idea of adopting the Amish lifestyle!

  • I don't think it will get passed. It's just ridiculous and we will crumble more than we have already.

  • Great way to stimulate the housing industry. Tell you your home is not energy efficient and then proceed to tell you that in order to bring into line with Cap and Trade it's going to cost more than what it would to tear the house down and build another. Where in the world do they think people are going to get the money to replace windows and doors, furnaces, etc. This is the problem with their current tax credit program--first you have to have the money to spend on these things, then you have to be able to itemize your taxes and meet the qualifications of being over the standard deduction. It isn't just a line for claiming energy efficiency credits. Most people don't have the money to even think about weatherization or energy efficiency.

  • LOL Amen to that. I sat for an hour and listenend to Boehner try his best to describe the important parts of that amendment they thought they could sneak in. They are taking away states rights. Building codes are now decided on a state by state basis but soon if this passes I guess those guys will have to reapply to Obama after they lose their job. We will have to spend extra money (no doubt taxpayers) to retrain all inspectors so they know all teh new red tape when inspectin ga house. Better have that Energy Star Rating. There is a section that gives a blank check to someone her kept referring to as the Secretary to make all this happen. (Secratary of what or who?) This is a terrible bill through and through. The worst thing is we do not have to make it cost this much. the money is all for more government goodies. My Senators will vote NO but I am going to call every other Senator if I have to to stop this!

  • Oh no Anon, There is a provision for an unnamed amount of money to go to these community groups to make sure the poor can get a leg up paying for all these improvements and get into new energy star homes. Yeah Acorn!

  • Yes, yes, people, call your senators. Stalk them. Tell your neighbors. This IS NOT going to help the environment, it's a gigantic fundraiser!

  • A little too late. I can't understand what is going on with this new admin. This is not the first time that they were given a 1,000+ page bill to read in a day. See a trend happening here? And the fact the the extra 300+pages were added after some had already voted. How is that deemed fair? Hmmmmm....

  • resamarie--

It's NOT too late!!! This bill still has to pass through the Senate before Obama signs in order to be implemented.
