Background checks and Section 8

Has anyone ever gotten section 8 and still have a felony on their background or something. I'm not sure how far back they look but when dh was about 16 he had a felony because he burnt down a house he went to juvie for it and now he is 25 and nothing has happened since then, do you know if they will not give it to us because of that?

  • Juvenile records are usually sealed at age 18 and would not show up on a background check. If he wasn't tried as an adult, which i assume he wasn't, it woudn't be on there.

  • As long as there are any felony or drug charges on a record, you cannot get Section 8 housing. Also, if you get housing and someone that is visiting is busted for illegal drugs while in your house, you will lose your housing. They have very strict rules for Section 8 housing.

  • although he has a felony, it's a juvenile record, which should be sealed.. you'll have to check with your state to see if it will effect your chances or not.. but regardless.. you'll never know until you apply.
