When did you start giving your child whole milk?

My son is now 11 months he eat's ice cream and has eaten my cereal with whole milk on it and he eats whole milk yogurt... But I have never given him just plain whole milk... I know you arent suposed to til a year old but I know of some moms who gave there child some at 11 months old maybe once a day or half and half with the formula... I was just wondering if I should start doing that... He no longer eats baby food either he eats what I do to some extent but refuses to eat baby food... So whats your personal opinion.. Please dont bash me I'm a first time mom and dont know exactly how this all works
thank you

  • At 11 months, i did half formula, half whole milk and gradually decreased the amount of formula over the next month. She was weaned off formula and on whole milk at a year old.

  • I personally think it is better for them if you use formula for a while longer. Just a personal belief. Nobody has to agree with me. I mean... cow's milk was designed for baby cows. Formula may not be breastmilk (which, without doubt, is better... but simply wasn't for us) but it is closer to breastmilk than anything else. Many people breastfeed past one year old. Why is one the magical number to give them milk made for baby cows? I do give my son one or two bottles of whole milk a day. At 11 months old, I was giving him a few ounces once a day. But I feel as if he needs the vitamins and minerals in formula for few more months.

  • 12 months. He was underwhelmed. Preferred water, and still does.

  • At around 12 months I started mixing whole milk in the formula a little bit at a time. After abotu a month she was completely on whole milk.

  • Never.

My kids drink almond or rice milk, which I start after a year, at the very least. They don't need any liquid besides breastmilk.
