Who wants to give China the upperhand?

From the US Senate Committee on Enviroment and Public Works
Senator Inholfe

Carbon caps, according to reams of independent analyses, will severely damage America’s global economic competitiveness, principally by raising the cost of doing business here relative to other countries that have no mandatory carbon policies. So jobs and businesses will move overseas, most likely to China. This so-called “leakage effect” would tip the global economic balance in favor of China and other strategic competitors of the U.S. Clearly, unilateral U.S. action redounds to the benefit of China and to the great detriment of the U.S.
By itself, China has a vested interest in swearing off carbon restrictions, in order to keep its economy growing and lift its people from poverty. Add unilateral U.S. action into the mix, and we give China an even stronger incentive to oppose mandatory reductions for its economy.

  • So, we are borrowing money from China currently. They are able to produce goods at a less expensive cost compared to America. If cap and trade PASSES, they will produce at a lower cost while US produce Goods will cost more. Are you prepared to let the divide get bigger?

Someone who SUPPORTS Obama's Cap and Trade bill, EXPLAIN to me WHY?????????? Isn't there a BETTER WAY? A way that supports American businesses and industry? Or are those who support it, ok if MORE jobs go to places like China and India (who have no emissions restraints).

  • China manufactures way more than we do, they own more of our debt securities than we do. Yes I would say they DO have the upper hand.

  • Maybe the problem is that I still have so much faith in the American people and American Government to do the right thing. But ONLY if the PEOPLE wake up and MAKE THEM WORK FOR US!!! We are blessed to live in a free nation. China doesn't have that. But with every Bill that the Obama admin rushes through, we lose more and more Freedoms.

  • It is not only President's fault. Problem with American companies is that their products are not in highest quality anymore. So other countries are looking for better companies.
I just read the story about country in Europe with only 1,5 million people . They are building inside of the ambulance cars. And they get orders all over the world. Why? They like the work quality and cutting edge of the product.
So everything is not only about China.
