self esteem

my self esteem is so low and has been so low since i was little.i am 50 yrs old and gotta get on the do i build it.i feel as if time is slowing fading away....

  • Self esteem is really just loving yourself and seeing that you are a person of worth. I think one of the things that contributes to low self esteeem is the comparison of ourselves with others. In order to stop doing that, it might be helpful for you to sit down with pen and paper and make a list of your talents and abilities. Don't think in any other terms other than what you are good at. The list could include things like being a good cook, a good wife, a good mom, a good friend, a good housekeeper. When you have finished your list, be thankful for each gift that you have and realize that all these abilities make you who you are, a unique individual, unlike anyone else on earth. These are the things that make you especially you. You are one of a kind and special in every way. Now you can take those abilities and go out and change the world, if that's what you choose to do.

  • Make a list on paper (or computer) of things you like about yourself. What have you done for others? What have you accomplished? What have others said about you that was nice. At first you may think there isn't anything, but after you get started, you'll realize there are lots of things you like about yourself. If you were another person and met the person who is you, what would you think? What would you like about you? One way to build a feeling of self worth is to help others. Do volunteer work. in your community, in your church. There are many volunteer opportunities.
