how long after your due date

okay i was wondering how long can you go over your due date with out the doctors doing anything. This is my first child and my husband wants to be there for the birth of are child. but my due date is august 8th and my hubby leaves for basic/AIT august 18th please let me know

  • 2 weeks. If you ask they might do it sooner.

  • with dr's, usually they won't let you go past 42 wks.
    if this is your first baby, most first time mom's don't go until 41 wks. but, remember your EDD can be off by 2wks either way.

  • 2 weeks is the longest they will wait. I however was induced 4 days late because of his large size.

  • Yep - 2 weeks is usually the max. Some doctor's don't want to go over 1 week but most will induce at 2 weeks. But in those last weeks, you and the baby are monitored a lot more closely and decisions are based on how the baby is doing, how big, and how mom is doing - not just number of days late.

  • My second was 9 days past due and he had scheduled to induce me on the 10th day past due. I think it varies by doctor and I had asked to wait at least one week past my due date and he agreed as long as baby was still doing OK. Congrats!
