Do your family "get-together's" always include alcoholic beverages?

I hate that everytime my extended family gets together everyone gets drunk. It doesn't matter if it is Christmas, a birthday, or a wedding, everyone gets smashed. Is your family like this?

  • Well, it was a standing joke that the women drank because the men drove them to it! My mom, SIL and I would always share a bottle of wine,. That was the extent of the alcohol.

  • There's usually some wine or beer or whatever around, but we don't usually get smashed. Just a couple beer or sharing a couple bottles of wine with my sisters.

  • Agree with the above posts, normally just have a couple of beers or a glass or two of wine. We don't have family get togethers though, because hubby is military and we live too far away, so we have get togethers and celebrations with our other "family", our friends we have made. And yes there is normally alcohol, and sometimes someone gets drunk but that's not very often. And never me lol because I don't like more than a drink or two, after that I'm really relaxed already.

  • At our family functions there is usually beer, wine and/or cocktails available. Most of the adults have a few drinks and enjoy themselves. Those of us who don't drink enjoy ourselves too. No one in my family or my husband's family gets "drunk" at these events. No one falls down, throws up or makes a fool of themselves. Alcohol is fine if you are able to enjoy it in moderation.

  • I am very sorry that kids have to see this happening and that adults are teaching them that this is how you have fun. If it were my family, I would leave before everyone started to get smashed. Our family does not serve anything alcoholic. We have a family reunion every year and we all laugh until we are silly and have a great time. grannywilson
