# I need help with a math question anyone

A cook makes hamburgers that are 6 1/4 ounces each. How many patties can he makes from 87 1/2 ounces of meat? Explain how you would solve this problem, and solve it. Can anyone help me with this.

• You have to make both mixed fractions into simple fractions...multiply the 87 by 2 and add 1 to get 175/2. Then do the same for the second fraction... multiply 6 by 4 and add 1 to get 25/4. Then invert the second fraction and multiply so ... you get 175/2 x 4/25 you'll get 14

• The answer is 14. I cheated though, I used a calculator. 87.5 (87 1/2) divided by 6.25 (6 1/4) Good luck!

• That's a division problem: Divide the amount of meat being used by the desired amount for each patty. 87.5 divided by 6.25. Hope this helps!

• You divide the bigger number by the smaller number.

• A good tip to remember is to change any fractions into decimals for when you have to do math equations.
I got 14 hamburgers by converting and dividing just as the other pp's did, too. :)
