  • A four year old should be able to share a lot of the time, but may sometimes need reminders. He is still at a very egocentric age. This means that he believes that everything revolves around him! Certain items like special blankets or stuffed animals that he sleeps with do not have to be shared. When he is playing with another child and they want what he has, the other child needs to ask for a turn. They cannot just take the item from him. Nobody wants to share when a friend does that. When the friend has asked for a turn, your son should be told to say, 'You can have the ___ in a minute or a little bit. " This gives him the chance to get ready to share or give a turn and not giving it up at a moments notice. It is probably a good idea to set a timer or give him a watch to hold so he can learn how long a minute of time truly is. When the timer rings and time is up, remind him to give a turn/share. Help him hand it

  • We take turns with our 4 yr if a cartoon is over and we want to watch the news...well "it's our turn" to watch the tv
playing games is a good way as well. If a parent incorperates turn taking and sharing the child will catch on. They learn better by example then by being told.
