I got a green scapular in the mail

can anyone explain the history and purpose of it?

  • A scapular is basically intended to be a layman's version of a religious habit. It's serves as a reminder of our faith and is not somehow magical by itself. It's not like wearing a piece of cloth and saying some words with no faith or belief in God causes some type of magic to happen. And if a prayer request is granted, it's granted because of God not because of a piece of cloth. Wearing a scapular is a reminder (not unlike a Jewish paryer shawl) of a devotion ot Chrsit or to His mother Mary. A devotion to Mary is not that she is equal to Jesus, but that as Jesus' mother she will lead souls to her divine Son.

    moki, I am not sure why I it was sent to me. A few months ago I asked the Fatima Center for a rosary they give them out free along with a instructions how to pray the rosary. I assume I am on their list to send information and gifts.
