Why do pregnant women crave sour foods/drinks?

I'm in my 5th month and haven't craved anything like that but heard it's common. Why is that?

  • With both my pregnancies I never craved anything sour, actually I only craved chinese food with my son and nothing with my daughter. My mom told me she craved gasoline (badly) with me and dirt with one of my brothers. So I wouldn't know about pregnant women craving sour food/drink.
